The statue travels a stretch in great escort, then two more solitary traits, until the little church “Del Martirio” in a promontory near Nora, where it becomes the object of an enormous pilgrimage for the duration of 3 May. Finally returns triumphantly in Cagliari after spending the last night in Pula.

Antico Sposalizio Selargino (Ancient Selargius Wedding)

Selargius – the second Sunday of September

All inhabitants of Selargius participate in the re-enactment of the traditional Sardinian wedding. The evening before the wedding take place the “Palio della Sposa”, that consists in the transport of the furniture of the woman in the future home of the couple. The ceremony involves the dressing of the spouses, in the “Pollas Campidanesi”, ancient peasant houses. The future spouses go to their parents for the blessing which evokes a series of ancient rituals, as the blessing of the head with salt and wheat and breaking a plate in the presence of the groom. The wedding is celebrated according to the Catholic rite in the church “Dell’Assunta”. The bride and groom are accompanied to the ceremony by relatives and friends. In the church the spouses chain themselves to symbolize their indissoluble bond. All guests wait for the couple in front of the church of San Giuliano, where a parchment containing a message for future heirs is drawn up which will be given to them on the celebration of the 25 years anniversary of marriage.
