1st DAY: MONTEPULCIANO, PIENZA
Arrival of the group in Montepulciano in the late morning. This splendid Renaissance village known for the red and soft wine called "the noble wine". Meeting with the guide. The group will have a little break in the historic centre and visit the Civic Museum and the "Pinacoteca". The group will then proceed to the Duomo, the churc of S. Augustine, and the church of S. Biagio. Time for lunch will be given or the group can have lunch in a restaurant (if reserved). In the afternoon, transfer with the bus to Pienza. Visit of the beautiful cathedral (the outside is completely different from the inside like some german gothic churches) and the "Piccolomini" Palace, known for its splendid courtyard and arches. If desired, the group can visit an agricoltural facility to partecipate in a wine tasting and taste some local products such as cheese. proceed to the preselected hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
2nd DAY: PITIGLIANO, SORANO, E SOVANA
After breakfast, transfer to Pitigliano. The town is situated on a steep tuff rock. The houses were built with different heights on the surface of this tuff rock. The area of Pitigliano has valleys sourrounding and it shows the contrast of the verticals of the high houses and the green of the valleys. Meeting with the guide. Visit of the village. Like almost all the medieval villages of this region, Pitigliano is surrounded by a man-made wall as well as a natural one, a castle and a village. The man made walls are reduced in some areas depending on the location of the village and due to its natural location of the tuff rock the area is already naturally protected. The castle was the residence of the family Orsini even if it was restructured several times but it still shows two large columns, a beautiful court, and a beautiful room that hosts two museums of Pitigliano. To visit is also the ancient Church of Santa Maria dedicate to San Rocco, patron of Pitigliano, the Duomo, the quarters called "Fratta" and most of all the wine cellars of Pitigliano: a real underground city. Lunch in a restaurant with a typical "maremmano meal". In the afternoon transfer to Sovana, ancient medieval village perfectly conserved. The group will visit: the Rocca Aldobrandesca, the church of Santa Maria, the Archive Palace, the Boubon Palace, the Duomo of San Pietro. Furthermore, the numerous renovated Etruscan tombs of various sizes and types located in the near medieval centres and some inserted in the tuff. To visit are the tomb "Hildebrand", the Etruscan "Cavone", the tomb "della Sirena", the road "cava di S.Sebastiano", as well as the tomb "del Tifone" and others. Then transfer to Sorano situated in the "Alta Maremma Toscana" in the internal of the Archaeological Park of the Tuff City only 9 km away from Pitigliano and Sovana. Art and nature offer some breathtaking villages, Etruscan necropolis as well as in the whole territory of the Archaeological Park. The story of Sorano is attachedto the life of the neighbourhood village Pitigliano which used to be owned by the family of Aldobrandeschi and then by the family Orsini. Afterwards, in the years of the 1600, Pitigliano enters in the possession of the Grand duke of Tuscany. Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
3rd DAY: SAN GIMIGNANO
After breakfast transferring to San Gimignano located on the hill that overview the Valdelsa valley. Meeting with the guide and visit the "City of the towers" that once was a small etruscan village. It gets his name of the Saint Bishop of Modena San Gimignano who is said to have saved the village from the barbarian hordes. The town increased in wealth and developed greatly during the medieval times thanks to the Via Francigena the trade and the peligrim's route that crossed it. The following monuments can be visited: the Duomo, the Collegiate Curch. the town hall, the Museum of Sacred Art, the Archeological Museum , Saint Agostino's Church, People's Palace and his numerous towers. Lunch in a restaurant with a typical Tuscan Lunch. End of services.
