1st DAY: ANGHIARI
Arrival of the group late in the morning in Anghiari. This ancient medieval village preserves intact towers, churches, little squares and alleys rich with laboratories of painters and sculptors. Time for lunch will be given to the group or lunch can be arranged in a enchanting Castle (if reserved). In the afternoon meeting with the guide and visit of the “Museo Statale di Palazzo Taglieschi”, the Palace of “Marzocco”, the Museum of the “Misericordia”, and the little church of “St. Stefano”. Transfer to the hotel (in the area of Arezzo or Castiglione Fiorentino), dinner and overnight stay.
2nd DAY: CHIUSI DELLA VERNA, CAMALDOLI E POPPI
After breakfast, transfer to “La Verna” extreme edge of the “Casentino” a renoun place of Christianity and frequently visited due to the remembrances of San Francesco di Assisi. Meeting with the guide. Visit of the sanctuary of “Santa Maria degli Angeli” which includes a church, a convent and a chapel. The complex is located on the rocky spur between the Casentino and the Valtiberina. The visit starts at the Meridiana Place with its antique arch which used to be the entrance to the monarchy. From the palace “della Meridiana” the group will descend to the “Sasso Spicco” which is hidden and the place where San Francesco used to retrieve for his prayers. Here, following a narrow corridor which leads to a large rock that was used to be the bed of San Francesco. This corridor is protected by glass walls and gives access to the Chapel “della Stimmate” and shows the tombstone that reminds the visitor of the event occurred in the year 1224: while San Francesco prayed in solitude, he received the stigmata from the Passion of Jesus Christ. In the afternoon, transfer to “Camaldoli”, which is famous due to the Monastic Complex “Camaldolese” a well known pilgrimage destination. Finally the group will reach the “Castle of Guidi” where noble and rich men lived and used the fort as their residence while today it hosts the Library of History. Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
3rd DAY: AREZZO
After breakfast, depart for Arezzo an ancient town which rises above the hill over the great Casentino valley. Meeting with the guide. The group will then start their visit of the city: the Cathedral, “Santa Maria della Pieve”, the large Piazza, the Basilica of “San Francesco”, the church of “San Domenico” and the Archaeological Museum. Time for lunch will be given or lunch can be organized in a restaurant (if reserved). End of services.
