Programma

1st DAY: GAIOLE IN CHIANTI, RADDA IN CHIANTI, CASTELLINA IN CHIANTI

Arrival of the group in the late morning in Gaiole in Chianti. Begin of services. The village is born tanks to the commercial trades along the Massellane torrent. The region of Gaiole is crossed by the “Castles Street”, where is possible to admire testimonies of the medieval tradition of noble families to build castles. The most famous is the Brolio's Castle, today reputed farm where is permitted the visit of the cellar, of the vineyards and the museum too. Here it is possible to taste Chianti wine (if reserved). Lunch at group's leisure or in castle (if reserved). In the afternoon continuation to Radda in Chianti. Meeting with the guide (if reserved) and visit of the ancient medieval village located in the heart of the Chianti region. Nowadays, only some part of the town walls and some of the observation towers are visible. The most import building is the “Palazzo Pretorio”, built in the second part of XV century. Transfer to Castellina in Chianti, one of the most important villages of the region with your ancient historical centre. Do not miss the “Camminamento delle Volte.” Check–in at hotel in Poggibonsi, dinner and overnight stay.

 

2nd DAY: BARBERINO VAL D'ELSA, TAVARNELLE VAL DI PESA, CERTALDO

After breakfast departure for Barberino Val d'Elsa, meeting with the guide (if reserved) and visit of the ancient village. Many are the marks of the medieval past: some town walls stretch, the city entrance doors and many buildings such as the “Palazzo Pretorio”, the “Palazzo del Cardinale”, the “Spedale dei Pellegrini” and the Church of “San Bartolomeo”. Do not miss the Chianti landscape that you can admire from the Church facade in the historical centre, from here is possible to admire all the Chianti's region and in the foreground the little fortified village of Tignano, built in the XII century. Departure to Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. Lunch at group's leisure or in restaurant (if reserved). In the afternoon continuation to Certaldo. The village is crossed by the Elsa River. The ancient part “Certaldo Alta” located on a hill is a wonderful medieval village example, perfectly conserved. It is closed to the traffic and can be reach by a funicular (4 minutes to take 55 meters of difference in altitude) or can be reached on foot. The modern quarter is situated on the plain and its development is due to the great economic expansion of the XVIII century and to the railways built in XIX century. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

 

3rd DAY: GREVE IN CHIANTI

After breakfast departure for Greve in Chianti. Situated on an important network, has developed as a market place. The market takes place in the triangular place surrounding by arcades, today called “Piazza Matteotti”. Meeting with the guide (if reserved). Optionally it is possible to visit the “Arte Sacra Museum” located into the San Francesco's ex convent, where it is an important collection of paints, sculptures, vestments and sacred furnishings. Visit of Panzano and of the “Pieve di San Leolino”. Lunch is at group's leisure or in the castle (if reserved). End of services.
